University of Leeds chefs win gold at TUCO competitions

Last week, three chefs from the University of Leeds Catering team demonstrated their skill and creativity at the prestigious TUCO (The University Caterers Organisation) Competitions. Held over two days at the University of Warwick.
With more than 100 competitors from universities across the country. The TUCO Competitions is a key date in the calendar for university caterers, offering the opportunity to showcase expertise across a range of disciplines.
Standout performances across the board
Andy Cornall, Aaron Tong and Rob Hargreaves represented the University of Leeds and each delivered standout performances across their categories.
Double win for Andy Cornall
Andy Cornall took part in two individual challenges. The Love British Food Challenge and the Seafood Skills Challenge – and placed first in both.
The Love British Food Challenge focuses on creating a plated main course with British pork and complementary accompaniments.
The Seafood Skills Challenge tests a chef’s ability to prepare seafood with precision, showcasing exceptional knife skills and product knowledge.
Gold for Aaron Tong and Rob Hargreaves
Chefs Aaron Tong and Rob Hargreaves teamed up for the Chefs’ Challenge. Which tasks two chefs with preparing a three-course meal for two within two hours. Their strong collaboration, technical ability and attention to detail earned them a Gold award.
A team to be proud of – an exceptional team effort
Ben Collier, and Hospitality at the University of Leeds, said:
“It’s an incredible achievement and a testament to the hard work, talent and dedication of our chefs. The competition is always tough, and to receive this recognition reflects the quality and professionalism of the team. I’m extremely proud of what they’ve accomplished.”
Celebrating culinary excellence
This result highlights the calibre of culinary talent within the University’s catering team, who deliver exceptional food and service across everything from major conferences to everyday campus dining.
